Bifurcation analysis of a piecewise-linear impact oscillator with drift

چکیده
We investigate the complex bifurcation scenarios occurring in the dynamic response of a piecewise-linear impact oscillator with drift, which is able to describe qualitatively the behaviour of impact drilling systems. This system has been extensively studied by numerical and analytical methods in the past, but its intricate bifurcation structure has largely remained unknown. For the bifurcation analysis, we use the computational package TC-HAT, a toolbox of AUTO 97 for numerical continuation and bifurcation detection of periodic orbits of non-smooth dynamical systems (Thota and Dankowicz, SIAM J Appl Dyn Syst 7(4):1283–322, 2008) The study reveals the presence of co-dimension-1 and -2 bifurcations, including fold, period-doubling, grazing, flip-grazing, fold-grazing and double grazing bifurcations of limit cycles, as well as hysteretic effects and chaotic behaviour. An algebraically computable piecewise linear planar oscillator
A piecewise linear oscillator whose oscillation can be completely characterized by algebraic methods is studied. It represents up to the best of authors’s knowledge, the first example where all the oscillation properties can be determined for all the values of the bifurcation parameter, being not a perturbation of the harmonic oscillator. In fact, algebraic expressions for coordinates of repres...
متن کاملBifurcation of asymptotically stable periodic solutions in nearly impact oscillators: DRAFT
Since the observation by Glover-Lazer-McKenna [3] that a simple harmonic oscillator with a piecewise linear stiffness (jumping nonlinearity) contributes to the explanation of the failure of the Takoma bridge, the studying of periodic oscillations in such models got a lot of attention of mathematicians; see the recent survey [8] and the papers [12, 2]. Also, new engineering studies of impact osc...
متن کاملMultiscroll in Coupled Double scroll Type oscillators
A unidirectional coupling scheme is investigated in double scroll type chaotic oscillators that reveal interesting multiscroll dynamics. Instead of using self-oscillatory systems, in this scheme, double scroll chaos from one oscillator is forced into another similar oscillator in a resting state. This coupling scheme is explored in the Chua oscillator, a modified Chua oscillator and the Lorenz ...

This paper studies a chaotic spiking oscillator consisting of two capacitors, two voltage-controlled current sources of signum shape and one impulsive switch. The vector field of circuit equation is piecewise constant and embedded return map is piecewise linear. Using the map parameter condition for chaos generation is given. Using a simple test circuit typical phenomena can be confirmed experi...
متن کاملDesign of Time Delayed Chaotic Circuit with Threshold Controller
A novel time delayed chaotic oscillator exhibiting monoand double scroll complex chaotic attractors is designed. This circuit consists of only a few operational amplifiers and diodes and employs a threshold controller for flexibility. It efficiently implements a piecewise linear function. The control of piecewise linear function facilitates controlling the shape of the attractors. This is demon...
